Jehan Alain - Life and works of a French composer

St John's Halifax Street
Friday 13 April 7:00pm

Last year we commemorated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jehan Alain. Despite the fact that he died at such an early age, Alain made an enormous contribution to the organ repertoire of the 20th century. His music has a unique quality, which enables it to speak to many who do not otherwise enjoy "modern" music. His works are full of imagery, imagination and colour and many of them are closely linked to the often tragic circumstances of his life. This lecture will outline his upbringing in one of France's important musical families and trace his life story in images and sound.
