Director of MusicSince the Kapelle Singers came into being in October 1995 as a small group of female singers, it has grown and developed into a four-part ensemble of up to 50 talented singers, including a large number of young vocal students drawn from the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
The group has a wide range of repertoire, both sacred and secular.
The Director of Music is Colin Curtis, one of Australia’s pre-eminent music educationalists.
The Kapelle Singers was formed in October 1995 as a small group of female singers, most of whom were past members of the Pembroke Girls Choir under the direction of Colin Curtis.
The group has grown and developed substantially since its inception. The Kapelle Singers is now a four-part ensemble of up to 50 talented singers providing its members with an impressive variety of performance experiences.
The choir includes a large number of young vocal students. A strong focus of the ensemble is to foster young singers and provide a platform for them to extend themselves musically and obtain solo and choral experience.
The main driving force of the group is to strive for musical excellence. Each year, our repertoire and concert programs are selected with the aim of stretching the ability of the ensemble and attaining a new, higher level of achievement.
Kapelle has made four appearances at the International Barossa Music Festival and has presented a Government House concert for the Friends of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
In 2006 and 2010, the choir performed with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in the production of "Scotland the Brave".
In August 2006 the Kapelle Singers won the South Australian State Final in the ABC Classic FM Choir of the Year Competition.
In 2011, at the invitation of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Kapelle will present "Last Night of The Proms" with the Orchestra in the Adelaide Festival Theatre
