Birth Matters seminars are informal and provide opportunities to ask questions. Partners, other family members and birth support people are all welcome. A short but inspiring birth video is usually presented and people are encouraged to discuss issues with the midwives and consumers who attend. This gives perspectives of giving birth with different types of care provider and in a variety of birthplaces. Birth Matters emphasises helping people make genuinely informed choices which suit their particular needs, rather than advocating any one type or place of birth.
