Amassing Treasures

The Art of Inviting Trouble

Store treasure up for yourself on the earth in Jesus’ name so that His Kingdom may be established here on Earth...

Is that what the Scriptures say? Let’s take a look....

“Do not store treasure up for yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust cause to perish, and where thieves dig through and steal”. Matthew 6:19

Do NOT store up treasures on the earth... Hmmm. One wonders what part of DO NOT do snake oil merchants such as Kenneth Hagan (deceased), Charles Capps, TD Jakes, 33rd degree mason Kenneth Copeland and wife Gloria, Joyce Meyer, Marilyn Hickey, Paula White, Joel Osteen, Oral and Evelyn Roberts, Benny (the) Hinn,  Robert Schuller (also a 33rd degree mason), Fred Price, Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, Creflo and Taffi Dollar, Eddie Long, John Avanzini, Paul and Jan Crouch, Brian and Bobby Houston, Ashley and Jane Evans and their contemporaries, (all of whom must be spiritually deceased) not understand? The problem with preachers of this ilk is that their eyes are dark and that darkness has consumed them. Their collective eye is fixated on whatever this world has to offer and like Satan, they twist the Scriptures to justify their false teachings and indulgent lifestyles. Read the rest of that passage from Matthew 6 continuing on from verse 19, and remember this is the Saviour speaking...

“... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The lamp of the body is the eye. Then if your eye is sound, all your body is light. But if your eye is evil, all your body is dark. If, then, the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! No one is able to serve two lords; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other; or he will cleave to the one, and he will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and wealth.” Matthew 6:20-24

This whole passage is talking about focus. Either focus on God the Father or focus on mammon (literally ‘personified wealth’). Y’shua said everyone is INCAPABLE of serving both. Bear that in mind with regard to what follows.

Prosperity preachers (otherwise known as blabbers and grabbers) every last sorry one of them, are building their own little kingdoms here on earth for their own glory, sickeningly using the name of the King of Kings as the construction company and the wallets of the gullible as the financiers. In a recent Watchman Report entitled Prosperous and Accountable we addressed the current and ongoing U.S. Senate inquiry into some of the above ‘ministries’ and their lavish lifestyles ‘in the name of Jeeeezuzzz’. Fellow believer and U.S. Senator Charles Grassley is heading up the enquiry which frankly, in our opinion does not go nearly far enough. Moriah Ministries Australia wholeheartedly believes such an enquiry needs to be undertaken here in Australia.

You know it’s bewildering to me how a professing child of the living God would rightly tsk, tsk the gold and jewel encrusted Hindu temples in India, or the golden statues of Buddha (the obese) worshipped in the midst of abstract poverty where common folk contend with rats for a place to sleep, and yet appear to turn a blind eye to ‘preachers’ gallivanting around in brand new Bentleys, reclining in their multi million dollar mansions after a gruelling 15 minutes behind an acrylic lectern, or even holidaying in the Bahamas after flying in on their own church funded Learjets. These ‘preachers’ would better be defined as spiritual spin doctors engaging in gospelotomy in order to perform repeated cashectomies and driven soley by Phantasm.

Gospelotomy - Verb - the act of cutting into or cutting out components of the Gospel of Christ.

Cashectomies – Verb – the repeated act of permanently removing cash from the patients in the pews.

Phantasm – Noun – An Illusion.

Being too harsh? While we cannot possibly focus on every wolf in the flock within a single report, let us take a look at what a select few of these spin doctors are dishing up to the gullible for the enlightenment of those who perhaps would otherwise choose not to see...

Kenneth Copeland:

Copeland convinced his congregation to part with $20 million U.S. dollars to purchase a Learjet for ‘ministry’ only purposes after making fun of a congregant who spent $25,000 in one year on airfares. Watch the video HERE. Not surprisingly this ‘ministry’ jet has touched down in places such as Maui, the Bahamas, Honolulu and the like. Funny that.

Some notable quotables from this ‘Godfather of the Prosperity Gospel Movement’...

God is the greatest failure in the Universe

"I was shocked when I found out who the biggest failure in the Bible actually is....The biggest one is God....I mean, He lost His top-ranking, most anointed angel; the first man He ever created; the first woman He ever created; the whole earth and all the Fullness therein; a third of the angels, at least--that's a big loss, man. . . Praise-a-Thon program on TBN [April 1988]

God lives on a mother planet

"Heaven has a north and a south and an east and a west. Consequently, it must be a planet." Spirit, Soul and Body I 1985 audiotape #01-0601, side 1

"You don't think earth was first, do you? Huh? Well, you don't think that God made man in His image, and then made earth in some other image? There is not anything under this whole sun that's new. Are you hearing what I'm saying? This is all a copy. It's a copy of home. It's a copy of the Mother Planet. Where God lives, He made a little one just like His and put us on it." Following the Faith of Abraham I, 1989 audiotape #01-3001, side 1

The death of Jesus on the Cross did not pay the price for sins

"It wasn't the physical death on the cross that paid the price for sin..anybody could do that" What Satan saw on the day of Pentecost

Jesus was raped by homosexual Roman soldiers everyway possible

"Let me tell you something folks. Anybody in here that's ever been sexually abused, listen to me right now. Listen to me very carefully. The bible's very careful about the way it says these things. But down there in that dungeon, Romans, ungodly men, ungodly men, put him (Jesus) to every kind of abuse that you can think of. There is no sin that Jesus didn't bare. There is no thing, there is no such thing as a sexual abuse on somebody that Jesus doesn't know firsthand what it's all about. He's been where you are, I don't care what you've been through, Jesus has been through it. And everything's done to him that we couldn't even speak of." The Resurrection Truth

God and Adam are the same size

God spoke Adam into existence in authority with words. These words struck Adam's body in the face. His body and God were exactly the same size." Holy Bible, Kenneth Copeland Reference Edition 1991, 45, emphasis in original

God has no right to the earth at all, he needs an invitation

"God had no avenue of lasting faith or moving in the earth. He had to have covenant with somebody. . . . He had to be invited in, in other words, or He couldn't come. God is on the outside looking in. In order to have any say so in the earth, He's gonna have to be in agreement with a man here." God's Covenants With Man II 1985, audiotape #01-4404, side 1

And that makes WHO God? Copeland and his contemporaries are in effect raising spoiled, demanding, sanctimonious little sods under the banner of Dominionism as the following little Copeland gem demonstrates...

"As a believer, you have a right to make commands in the name of Jesus. Each time you stand on the Word, you are commanding God to a certain extent because it is His Word." Our Covenant with God [Fort Worth, TX: KCP Publications, 1987], 32

Commanding God?! It astounds me that this snake is given any credibility at all.

Thomas Dexter (TD) Jakes

“The myth of the poor Jesus needs to be destroyed, because it’s holding people back”. (Kaylois Henry, “Bishop Jakes Is Ready. Are You?” - The Dallas Observer magazine, June 20-26, 1996 pg 31)

“Jesus was a rich man. He had to have been, in order to have supported his disciples and their families during his ministry.” (Kaylois Henry, “Bishop Jakes Is Ready. Are You?” - The Dallas Observer magazine, June 20-26, 1996 pg 13)

“I do think we need some Christians who are in first class as well as coach”. The Fort Worth Star Telegram, Aug. 11, 1996.

“I’m preachin’ so good, I’m about to amen myself” (Influencers Conference, Paradise Community Church South Australia)

“Scripture teaches that receiving Christ as your personal Savior does not necessarily make you a son of God, but if you choose to do so, the power (authority) and right to do so is present. ... Just being saved does not make you a son of God, ...only those who are willing to be led by the Spirit actually realize and manifest the sonship of God.” (T.D. Jakes, The Harvest. Bakersfield, California.: Pneuma Life Publishing, 1996, pg. 37.)

Jakes clearly has an immature and poorly developed understanding of the Scriptures, especially with what it means to be a child of God. We can indeed say we are sons of God if we’ve received Christ as John 1:12 indicates based on God’s right, God’s power and God’s authority to declare that of us. It is clear from John 1:12 that Yahweh alone gives the right to every believer to be named as His sons and children.

The word “become” in the verse is not to be seen as tentative in any way but as declarative as to what we become by receiving Y’shua as Saviour. God’s prerogative, in John 1:12, does not become man’s prerogative no matter what Jakes says. Griffith Thomas, known throughout the Anglo-Saxon world as one of the great English scholars of modern times, conveys the thrust of verse 12: “Having received Christ as ‘Word’ and ‘Light,’ we become sons of God.” (Griffith Thomas, The Apostle John. Grand Rapids: Eerdmans Publishing Company, 1965, pg. 154).

Jakes certainly lives the indulgence he spruiks. Abiding in absolute opulence, his friends apparently see fit to violate Scripture and shower their material ‘blessings’ on him. Blessings such as a brand spanking new black Bentley convertible for his 50th birthday. The generous benefactor? None other than fellow prosperity pontificator Paula White, who curiously gave the gift to Jakes just before she announced her separation from husband of 18 years Randy White; and after ‘entertaining’ Jakes while in New York City during an AIDS Conference in her private condominium at Trump Towers in mid town New York. So much for refraining from the appearance of evil at the very least. (1 Thessalonians 5:22)

Describing Jakes as her “spiritual father’ White justified the $200,000 ‘gift’ by saying... “I thought, ‘Well, why wouldn’t I?’ That’s not even an option.”

White seems to have forgotten, ignored or perhaps never even read Proverbs 22:16 ... which says...

“He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.”

Strong’s H6231 - Oppresseth: ‛âshaq - to defraud, violate, get deceitfully, deceive, defraud.

Strong’s H4270 - Want: machsôr  machsôr - deficiency; hence impoverishment: - lack, need, penury, poor, poverty, want.

In other words what goes around comes around! True believers are supposed to give Food, Clothing, Shelter, Medicine, Legal and Political Advocacy, and more importantly the Gospel to the poor, not $200,000 Bentleys to the rich.

Paula White, author of the book “You’re All That, Understanding God’s Design for Your Life” and co-‘pastor’ of Tampa Without Walls International Church is one of those under investigation by the U.S. senate for possible tax violation. She is a multi millionaire from a wealthy home, with no formal theological training, an artful question dodger, a negro wannabe, better suited (as are they all) to be an Amway motivational speaker, and like ALL prosperity preachers is a very confused woman with an equally confused and poor understanding of the meaning of the Scriptures. In a television interview when asked about her divorce White justified it verbatim by quoting Ecclesiastes 3:1...

All things have their season, and in their times all things pass under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

According to White, marriage is just another one of those seasons that come and go – no biggie, “all part of the journey” she said. She further stated in the interview that “God had led her through some things but not all”. White was catapulted to stardom with the assistance of the Bishop of Bling himself TD Jakes at his, “Woman Thou Art Loosed” conference in 2000. In 2001 she launched her own television show she calls a ministry (I contend it’s not a ministry’s armpit) which last year (2006) grossed $39.9 million U.S. dollars, most of which was fed back into her church an audit found. White did not disclose her salary. Her September 2007 scam is yet another money grab under the guise of holiness. Check this out, exposed by Jesus Christology...

Atonement offering? Thank you for approaching the Mercy Seat with your cash???

The following commentary comes courtesy of Jesus Christology:

The Atonement Offering is not made for believers! It is found in Leviticus 16 and was never meant for money. Is she asking her followers to send her live animals such as the bull, goat, sheep, and ram instead? What can she be thinking?

Christ made atonement for our sins once on the cross! This money business is really getting out of hand. Prayer cloths, holy water, and now an Atonement Offering? Don’t these people ever take God at His word? “You CANNOT serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24). What part of “cannot” does Paula not comprehend? “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent, therefore, of this wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you” (Acts 8:20-22).

Sadly superficiality is rife within the hallowed halls of the professing Christian church and while these good looking, smooth talking sultans of the stage proliferate the ranks, consider this from Matthew 23:27-29

“You are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly but inside are full of all men’s dead bones and all uncleanness. Even so, you outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness”

Some more of White’s dribble from assorted sermonettes featured on Larry King Live...

·         “Don’t make me preach now...”

·         (To congregation) “You are a living epistle; the written word of Christ”

·         “I don’t go where I’m tolerated; I go where I am celebrated”

And that pretty much sums up Paula White(wash).

Which brings me to Paradise Community Church’s Ashley Evan’s latest bourgeois Stage 5, 2008. It is important to keep in mind that Ashley evidently supports and endorses all of the above ‘ministers’ and their beliefs by virtue of his repeated invitations for them to come and ‘minister’ to his flock. But before we get to Ashley, a word first from the Father…

“The God who made the world and all the things in it, Him being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in sanctuaries made by human hands, nor by the hands of men is He served, as though He needed anything, for He gives to all life, and breath, with respect to all things”. Acts 17:24-25 (Emphasis mine)

Each of you must give what you have decided in your heart, not with regret or under compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

The word ‘compulsion’ is an interesting one. Translated ‘Necessity” is the Greek word anagkē and means ‘with distress’.

Thayer’s Greek Definitions renders the word thusly:

1.    necessity, imposed either by the circumstances, or by law of duty regarding to one’s advantage, custom or argument.

2.    calamity, distress, straits.

Albert Barnes notes... The main idea in this verse is that the act of giving should be voluntary and cheerful. It should not seem to be extorted by the importunity of others, nor should it be given from urgent necessity, but it should be given as an offering of the heart.

Simply put, by virtue of the fact the Heavenly Father loves a cheerful and willing giver, He forbids His people to feel any kind of distress when giving. This includes the guilt tripping, super spiritual, emotional manipulation inflicted on congregants by agenda ridden ‘pastors’ who make them feel that not giving, or not giving enough is somehow selling out God, His ‘vision’ (which is most often always the pastors vision alone) and / or His children. Remember again the words of Acts 17:25…

“...nor by the hands of men is He served, as though He needed anything for He gives to all life, and breath, with respect to all things”. (Emphasis mine)

The extravagant brochure (along with a two page cover letter containing more of Ashley’s trade mark, unbiblical dominionist ‘impact and influence the world’ lingo) arrived addressed to my daughter Rebekah last week. Rebekah has not been a member of that ‘church’ for about 5 years, adding weight to the argument that the Paradise Community Church’s claim to have 10,000 current members is an entirely bogus one! Not to mention the fact that Rebekah has just turned eighteen and gotten herself her first job. What’s next? Your five-year-olds allowance? Have need of that too Ashley? Perhaps we should refer to you as Prince John – or even Robin Hood, for both seem to apply in a twisted kind of way. As you can see from the pictures below the first thing that captures the reader’s attention is the picture of the Earth, under which reads the caption... “Owning Our Destiny”. Kinda says it all don’t you think?

Evans Brochure I (Small).jpg

How it escaped the boffins in the promotions department at the PCC that this publication not only depicts this ‘church’ as an identikit of the world so much so as to have its reflection, but also as one that actually believes this world is it’s destiny and promised land (as the spin within clearly delineates). Their reasoning is waaay beyond me.

The insides cover spells out how people and not God have made them who, where and what they are... and who am I to argue about that? I’d say the nail was hit squarely on its head with that little truth.

Evans Brochure II (Small).jpg

Page Two reads... “It’s Time to Join Together... And Possess What Is Ours...”

Evans Brochure III (Small).jpg

This folks is classic dominionist propaganda. Where does the Word of God teach that the earth belongs to believers? Evans has the unbelievable gall to draw a parallel between his Crowle Road acreage and the Promised Land spoken of in Joshua 14:1-5. The latter was the inheritance the Father promised the descendants of Abraham and it referred to actual dirt. The Promised Land for the believer in Christ is the Kingdom of God which is NOT of this earth.

The Bible (something Ashley and his wife should read more often) clearly says of this earth...

“...for the earth is the Lord's, in its fullness”. 1 Corinthians 10:26

The earth is whose? The earth belongs to whom?

...for we do not have here a continuing city, but we seek the city coming”. Hebrews 13:14.

Even Christ Himself proclaimed that His Kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36), and that believers should seek first that Kingdom along with His righteousness (which is also not of this world) (Matthew 6:33).

·         Does not the Word of God teach that the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal? (2 Corinthians 4:18).

·         Does not the Word of God declare that the earth and all that is in it belongs to God not man? 1 Corinthians 10:26

·         Does not the Word of God proclaim that this same earth and the heavens within which it rotates at 22 degrees to the eclectic will pass away? (Matthew 5:18, Revelation 21:1)

Why then seek the possession of that which does NOT belong to mankind but to God, something that is transient and soon to be done away with and something very removed from the Kingdom of God calling it an inheritance as Evans has done. Of course Ashley is more specifically referring to his 2.2 million dollar piece of dirt and having his congregants dig deep enough to pay $910,000 of the debt... for the ‘kingdom’s sake’ of course. In the cover letter he writes...

“We need to pray and ask the Lord what He will supernaturally provide for the land we have determined to redeem. We may be able to believe for $500.00 to be given to us out of the blue. Of course it may be so much more than that, so pray and find out what the Holy Spirit tells YOU what to believe for”.

More of Ashley’s name it and claim it nonsense. Note who has determined to redeem this land. Heaven forbid that people should actually work for the money, noooo... rather like spoiled-rotten children they should sit back and watch God magically dispense pennies from Heaven according to the combined desire of the deceived collective.

Page Three describes where all of this ‘kingdom’ money has and is being spent. Note that it has all been on its own comfort... Refitted Stage (not an altar but a stage, oops!) New lighting, which no doubt refers to the concert lighting I used to operate in my time there to ‘enhance’ the worship experience; a party room for the kiddies; 2.2 million dollars on what is presently a car park; a comfy cafe’; refurbished foyer and bookshop with EFTPOS facilities (also used for collecting the tithes and offerings – read  Matthew 21:12-13 and tell me where the difference lies). Cushy new carpet was also installed along with comfy pews. Now it’s up to stage 5... getting the cash to pay it all off.

Evans Brochure IV (Small).jpg

Is there anything wrong in repaying a debt? Of course not, it is a biblical principal, however can someone tell me where in the Word of God are believers instructed to erect church buildings?, especially lavishly comfortable ones such as the PCC? The command is as it was with the Israelites; pitch tents and erect altars not the other way around!

Page Four goes on to expose what prosperity preachers all over the world are about... material acquisition especially in the form of real estate. It is quite disturbing to hear these people refer to this land grabbing lust as ‘God’s Miraculous Provision’. While commendable that the PCC through the auspice of some very hard working and benevolent folk in the Community Services department claim to have fed over 16,000 people, one wonders how many more would have benefitted if it were not for the costly and indulgent enhancements to their ‘hub’ as Ashley refers to it.

Got a lazy Twenty Grand floating around? Despite Ashley’s insistence that the PCC has been ‘miraculously’ provided for, this is how it really happens, hard working people putting in their hard earned cash – Nothing miraculous about it folks! This is not divine intervention but rather savvy business debt reduction strategies masquerading as ‘kingdom building’. Remember Y’shua said emphatically that HIS kingdom was NOT of this world. It is clear that Ashley and Jane’s is!

Evans Brochure VII (Small).jpg

This last page says it all for me. We have always insisted that seeker sensitive churches such as the PCC in their quest to be relevant to the world actually become a reflection of it.

Evans Brochure XII (Small).jpg

Can you see the reflection of the world in the picture? Says it all don’t you think?

Ashley Evans along with his seeker sensitive, church growth, word faith, name it and claim it, blab and grab compatriots see their amassing of wealth, whether that be cash, shares, stocks and bonds, industry or real estate as an inheritance given by God to those with faith enough to believe for it, so that it can be passed on to the next generation as a ‘legacy’. Ashley and Jane believe so passionately in this charismatic kismet that they are prepared to lead others astray who are also prepared to embrace the delusion. Not surprisingly the Word of God on the other hand has something completely different to say on the matter of inheritance...

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, Who according to much mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah from the dead, to an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, kept in Heaven for you..” 1 Peter 1:3-4

According to this verse where is God’s inheritance for the redeemed kept? Ashley and Jane would have you believe it’s at 2 Crowle Road Paradise, South Australia.

Far be it for me to instruct folk where to invest their cash but with regard to Stage 5, 2008 you know what they say about a fool and his money...

Do not store up for yourselves treasures upon Earth, where moth and rust disfigure, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust disfigure, and where thieves do not break in or steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:19-21

Where’s your treasure today?

In His Everlasting Embrace
