Sinless Salvation and Cheap Grace

The Gospel of Gain

"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ". Galatians 1:6-7

"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him." 2 Corinthians 11: 3-4

In May 2005, reporter Adele Ferguson wrote an article for BRW's Cover Story entitled Prophet Minded”. The article was subtitled Pentecostal churches are not waiting to inherit the earth. They are taking it now, tax-free”. Adele's article struck a cord with those both inside and outside of the movement. It addressed the obsessive acquired wealth and prosperity now mentality (under the ruse of "Kingdom Building" of course) of the Assemblies of God (AoG) movement in Australia. Had Adele instead entitled the article Profit Minded few would have noted any error.

On page 3 of that article, senior pastor of the Paradise Community Church in Adelaide South Australia, (an AoG fellowship) Ashley Evans (referring to their method of evangelism) made this telling statement:

“We are scratching where people are itching.”

When I read that I couldn't help but think, "You certainly are Ashley, and the itch is in the region of the ear". (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Evan’s unwittingly summed up the new 'pop gospel' being belched from too many a plastic lectern within the professing church in this sad Laodicean age. And it's not the Good News of the Kingdom of God which believers of the first century church knew and laid down their lives for, but the 'like... totally cool, fully sick to the max, awesome info of the kingdom of man.

Heresy for Dummies

Like it or not, what is passing for the Gospel in a great majority of so-called ‘Christian’ fellowships today, (particularly in the charismatic sector) is perilously close to the antithesis of what was preached by first century believers. Cheap, temporal, transient, self indulgent, idolatrous, ego centric, sensual, feel good pep talks best sums up the 'gospel' of today. A weekly gathered throng hungry for the next cheap and meaningful sermonette to satiate their Christianette faith. In such apostate assemblies there is no proclamation of the offense of the Cross, no teaching of the corrupt and utterly vile nature of mankind, no exposure of why such a great debt was paid by the One who owed nothing, no call for contrition, humility or repentance, just a weekly feel good, show me how to be healthy, wealthy and wise bless me chat. Fortunately there remain a few who are faithful to the call.

Paul Washer

Paul Washer is a preacher with a curious distinction, whenever he preaches he never gets invited back. Why? Because he goes against the current 'seeker sensitive' stupidity and makes people feel uncomfortable about themselves - VERY uncomfortable, simply by preaching the Gospel from the Word of God the way it was meant to be preached. You will never hear Paul preach at Hillsong Australia, or the Paradise Community Church; he'll never be invited to either Rick Warren, Joel Osteen, TD Jakes, Joyce Meyer, Marilyn Hickey, or Bill Hybel's heretical hidey huts, nor a thousand like minded fellowships in between, simply because he dares to preach the authentic Gospel of Christ in preference to the compromised, Amwayesque version of the Laodicean lot.

Paul Washer

What follows are some excerpt from some of Paul's sermons. Compare them with what the prosperity prophets are spruiking and see just how much the modern church has been seduced into selfishness, and away from the truth.

Boy, that's not what we hear now is it? Today, it's all about our political correctness, our seeker sensitivity, our God given potential, our precious self esteem and our possessing the prodigal inheritance NOW like the demanding, self centered, spoiled little brats we truly are. No longer do 'preachers' condemn such behavior, in today's church it is celebrated. And that is why seeker sensitive churches are filled to the brim - because the lost, (who swell their ranks) don't want to hear the truth. They want to be entertained, cajoled, feel good about themselves and learn the 5 step process to gain health, wealth and power. They don't want to hear about surrender - real surrender. They don't want to give up their worldly habits, vices and addictions. They just want to go somewhere nice and friendly, delude themselves into believing they are part of the redeemed because they once walked an aisle to received God's totally awesome plan for their life, catch a nice vibe and go home to live the way they always have.

Too harsh an assessment? Read on...

Paul is absolutely correct, and yet despite the Bible's explicit warnings that this world is not the believer's home, and that we are forbidden to embrace it and its ideals, the seeker sensitive sectaries run too and fro seeking fellowship, familiarity, fame, fortune and friendship with it 2. And they do so in the name of the One who forbade them to do such. Here it yourself from the Word of God...

"Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways". Jeremiah 2:33

"Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets." Luke 6:26

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." 1 John 2:15-16

"Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see." Revelation 3: 17-18

They are asleep at the proverbial wheel, their wicks long spent and the menorah long since removed from their midst; having nodded off to the seductive melody of their own chart topping CD's. They are coddled comfortable in the cocoon-ish, alluring ambiance of their plush, plenteous pagoda's. They manufacture by human means, a glory not holy. And they have no clue, save the Word they profess to know, yet clearly do not. Have any questioned the comfort of the lost within their assemblies? They are so because of one simple truth.... the world loves its own.

"If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." John 15:19

Paul continues...

But of course the modern, seeker sensitive, emerging church is far more concerned with its own image than it is with its faithfulness; more interested in being respected and popular in the eyes of all - including those who by nature hate God, than it is in being spiritually chaste. It is vain and conceited, whose hypocrisy betrays its piety. Moriah Ministries Australia has long maintained that Seeker Sensitive ideology is borne more out of cowardice than a genuine desire to see the lost saved; (Romans 1:16) more out of being politically correct than being faithful to the Great Commission. Seeker Sensitive ideology replaces the work of the Holy Spirit in the conviction of man's sinfulness with a humanly contrived business strategem, and in the process has perverted the gospel to the point where it is no longer a gospel. What absolute impudence.

"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me". Revelation 3:20

The above verse is often used in evangelism to lure the lost into making a 'decision for Christ'. That is an extremely inappropriate use of the Scripture. Revelation 3:20 is referring to the church... to the CHURCH folks! Ask yourself these questions...

"What is Christ doing outside the church when He was once inside?

"What did the church do that caused Him to exit, and then have to knock on its CLOSED door to come back in?"

The answer should be simple. It took its eyes off Him. It followed its own schemes and devices rather than His Word. It gazed upon its own sufficiency and perceived beauty and forsook Him. (see Ezekiel 16:13-14) This is precisely how Lucifer fell from Heaven. (Ezekiel 28:15)

So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see. Revelation 3:16-18

Sobering, isn't it?

God's salvation is not given so that mankind might learn how to live prosperous lives, amass riches, drive expensive cars, live in palatial homes, acquire real estate or even erect mega temples for group hypnosis or seminars on how to take over the world. It is not given for earthly purposes. It is not given because we are nice people, we are not. Nor are we in anywise deserving of such grace. It is not given because God somehow feels sorry for our plight or even pities us. It is not given to get people into Heaven. On the contrary, it is given to keep them out of Hell. It is given because He who IS love, loves. (1 John 4:8) It is given because He is righteous, and His righteousness, which cannot be separated from His love, demands justice. His justice was satisfied on the Cross of Calvary where He was pleased to bruise He who was blameless for the sins of the guilty. (Isa 53:10) Who can comprehend so great an act of love?

It is only those who place the entire weight of their faith solely on the One whom the Father sent as the propitiation for every sinner, knowing that by no work of human hand nor deed of human design can this salvation be earned, who are truly saved. Only those who understand that they are saved not by their own works of righteousness but by His, and all FOR HIS NAME'S SAKE. (1 John 2:12) His name is Y'shua. His Name means: God (Yahweh) is Salvation.

Praying a cute little parroted prayer in an oftentimes controlled, peer pressured and emotionally charged environment will achieve nothing, least of all conversion. God's salvation comes by His hand alone to those who, in repentant contrition and sincere brokenness understand, and are repulsed by, the vileness of their own wicked heart, their absolute inability to bring about any change in their condition which might in the most miniscule way be pleasing to God, and who know that eternal separation from God is inevitable lest HE and HE ALONE create in the sinner, a new heart. For this to happen the Word of God must be preached, because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17, Romans 1:16) No amount of human intervention, irrespective of how ingenious, could ever suffice or even aid the work of the Holy Spirit in the act of redemption. (Zech 4:6) Salvation is a divine spiritual work not dependant on, or predicated by human choice. It is because this fundamental truth is so widely misunderstood, and the Word of God so shamefully misused, that most evangelical churches in the world today are filled with lost people who think they are saved, and all because the Gospel of the Scriptures has been replaced with the gospel of gain.

Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; naked, come to thee for dress; helpless look to thee for grace; foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Saviour, or I die. 3
