Just Who Is In Charge?
God, having of old time spoken unto the fathers in the prophets by divers portions and in divers manners, hath at the end of these days spoken unto us in his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds... (Hebrews 1:1-2) AV
Yesterday I received a disturbing email from a dear brother concerning the upcoming Federal election, an email authored by Pastor Danny Nalliah of Catch the Fire Ministries. You may recall Danny was one of the pastors recently entangled in the Victorian Labor Government's Religious Vilification laws for supposedly having offended some short fused Muslims. Among the many concerns I have about the email I received was Danny's obvious dominionist worldview and his glaring departure from Scripture when it comes to our role as believers in the world. Please take the time to read the contents of that email HERE for hereafter is a partial critique of it in the spirit of 1 John 4:1.
As our readers well know Moriah Ministries Australia has not been shy about warning of the ethical, moral, spiritual and fiscal dangers of electing a Federal Labor government. Our critique of their policies and agendas has focussed primarily on their leftist dominant, socialist worldview which is diametrically opposed to that of the Judeo-Christian faith[i]. Pastor Nalliah has taken a step into the ethereal assuming himself to be a prophet in the stead of Samuel. Our question is: Who so appointed him? By whose authority does he hold such an office? If one is tempted to answer: "God", then I direct them to our opening passage of Scripture. Prophets were used in olden times as a conduit between the Heavenly Father and mankind, when Christ came HE became the final word. How quickly we forget there is but one mediator between God and man [ii]. Prophets were given by Christ to establish the early church. The purpose of a prophet was to reveal truth from God, why then would we need prophets if we have the completed revelation from God in the Bible? If prophets were the "foundation" of the early church, are we still building the "foundation" today? It should also be noted that Scripture refers to these appointments in the past tense. In 2 Peter 3:2 and also in Jude 3-4, it states that the people should not stray from the message the apostles gave (past tense) not yet to give. In Hebrews 2:3-4, it also speaks in the past tense of those who performed signs, wonders, miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. There are no prophets in this generation. This reality may not suit the Charismatic movement but it is perfectly in tune with the Word of God. Now with that in mind let us further scrutinise pastor Nalliah's 'prophetic' word.
Ps Danny: The Lord told me to spend some personal time with Prime Minister John Howard and to prophetically prepare Federal Treasurer Peter Costello as the future Prime Minister of Australia.
Moriah: What on earth is 'prophetically prepare'? Where in Scripture is such a thing mentioned or practiced? We encourage readers to search the Word of God for themselves and when it becomes evident that such a thing is not mentioned anywhere in the Scriptures, nor practiced in historical Christianity one should be wary of whatever Ps Danny has to say thereafter.
Ps Danny: Unfortunately, I'm not at liberty to share the details of these private encounters, but I will boldly declare that Prime Minister John Howard will be re-elected in the November election (if the Body of Christ unites in prayer and action) and pass the leadership onto Peter Costello sometime after.
Moriah: Danny here is referring to private meetings with both John Howard and Peter Costello whereat he (Danny) bestowed upon each, one of his 'prophetic words' - again, apparently while operating in the office of Prophet. What disturbs me most about this portion of the discourse is the included caveat: 'if the Body of Christ unites in prayer and action'. This is more than problematic, it is downright arrogant. Firstly, when the Father instructed the prophets of old to profess, the action came to pass - there were no ifs, no buts, because the Father was the instigator and perfector of the action. What Danny is suggesting here is classic dominionist theology which essentially teaches that the Father's Will is subject to the actions of fallen man. This gross departure from biblical truth subtly elevates man to the status of God. The prophets of old never included an 'escape clause' in their prophesies as Danny has done. They spoke the word and it came to pass, if it did not they were identified as false prophets and stoned to death. Danny's escape clause: "Prime Minister John Howard will be re-elected in the November election (if the Body of Christ unites in prayer and action)" looses him from being labelled a false prophet should the Liberal Party lose the election - because the 'defeat' will have been the result of a 'lack of unity' rather than a false prophesy - can you see that? Notwithstanding the Father's call for His people to pray for those in authority over them and to be sober and vigilant, the suggestion that mankind is the author of his own destiny rather than our Omnipotent Creator is utterly absurd. Scripture clearly teaches that it is the Heavenly Father who raises up and dethrones kings and rulers, not man [iii]. Danny's departure from biblical truth here is both glaring and disturbing.
Having said all of that Moriah Ministries Australia agrees with Ps Nalliah's objective concerns regarding the Australian Labor Party's anti Judeo-Christian policies, priorities and agendas. As the attached letter in Ps Danny's email from Kevin Rudd [iv] (a professing Catholic - whatever that entails) clearly shows, the Australian Labor Party is a morally, ethically and fiscally deficient organisation and if elected, will most certainly be of absolute detriment to Australia in every sphere. They are a party which elevates the superficial in order to garner support [v]. As we pointed out in our article Rudd and Warren - Birds of a Feather both the State and Federal Labor Party are committed to the destructive femininist [vi] [vii] lobby 'Emily's List' [viii] which Ps Nalliah's correctly points out. They are also committed to ratifying the flawed Kyoto Protocol on the much touted 'Climate Change' [ix] , to the removal of moral boundaries relating to abominable sexual practices [x] and the installation of Socialism to the demise of democracy as we know it.
In his 'prophetic word' Ps. Nalliah refers to the praying for rain. I want you to notice something here. The 'healing of the land' to which Ps Nalliah infers, takes place not when those who are called by His Name elevate themselves to positions of divine political or social arbitration, but when they humble themselves and pray, when they seek His face and when they turn from their wicked ways. We must pay attention to the order here for it is very important. It is an admittance of our lowliness not strength, a proclamation of His sovereignty not our own and an admittance of our sinfulness. The place where His eyes are open and His ears attentive to our prayers is the place of our humility not our dominance [xi].
If I shut up the heavens, and there is no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people; if My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now My eyes shall be open, and My ears shall be open to the prayer of this place. 2 Chronicles 7:13
Unlike Pastor Danny Nalliah I do not claim to be a prophet. I am a watchman by the Father's calling. Regardless of Ps Nalliah's escape clause should the Liberal Party lose the upcoming Federal election he will be labelled a false prophet joining the ranks of Phil Pringle and company [xii]. Moriah Ministries Australia shares the concerns of many, both believer and unbeliever alike for Australia's future, particularly the leaders of this great nation and pray the Heavenly Father guides those in authority. True believers however, are not rest their faith on political parties and the leadership of mere men, but rather upon the Author of life. We therefore join the Gethsemene cry of our Savior Y'shua ... Nevertheless Father, not my will but Thine be done [xiii] .
