he had to settle for second place in the State Road Race Champs, the previous
night saw 15 year old Arthur Sissis take out the South Australian U16 Solo
Speedway Championship. Arthur is also the current Australian speedway U16

successful career in speedway ahead of him, he now considers that to be just

About the Club
Founded in 1964 by a group of bikers hanging around Tavistock Street in
the city, our members were mainly interested in Road Racing. However, those meetings
were expensive to run, so the Club raised funds and gained experience by
running Scrambles on a track they created at Brooks Gully (near Shea Oak Log).
In 1974, the move was made into Road Racing and we began organising events at
the Virginia circuit then later at Mallala. Over that time, Phoenix became
Adelaide's most successful Road Racing club with members competing around
Australia and internationally, both on solos and sidecars. (see our History Page for stories about the Club)

How to Become a Member
Membership is open to anyone who
is interested in motorcycling, whether you want to race, assist with events or
just enjoy the social activities. You will be able to vote on items of interest
to the club, and as a member of an affiliated club, you have a vote on national
matters such as changes to racing rules. We also hold a number of social events
during the year (see the calendar) so members can get together off the track.
We dont hold our legendary Fancy Dress Ball any more but some of our recent
functions have included winery tours, film nights, Go Kart racing, picnics,
dinners and river cruises. Annual fees are only $25.00 for a full member and
$15 for a second family member joining as an associate. Note that all
membership fees expire on December 31st each year. See the Club
Constitution for more
details on eligibility and conditions of membership. To download an application
form or join on-line, go to Join the Club
Getting a Racing
Licence
You can apply for a racing licence through any
club affiliated with Motorcycling Australia. You will need proof of age for
your first licence, such as a Birth Certificate or photo Drivers Licence. You
also require two passport photos and proof of Ambulance Service membership,
either direct or through a Health Fund.
Licences are valid for
12 months from date of issue. And do not forget to take it to the track when
you race. Before you are allowed onto the track, you will have to present your licence
and current club membership card to the officials. In 2007, a full racing
licence cost $255
Note: Some clubs hold Bracket
Race meetings (where riders are handicapped into groups)
and you can enter these events with a cheaper one day licence. This lets
beginners try out racing without the expense of a full licence.
All forms, documents, booklets, rules, etc. for becoming a licensed competitor
can be downloaded from Motorcycling
South Australia
Without
Flag Marshals, we can not go racing!
Marshals are an important part of any event. They assist in controlling
the races and operate the flag points around the track. Admission is free and
you get a trackside seat at the action. So, if you are over 15 and interested
in helping, please contact the SA Flag Marshals Association. They provide full
training, all equipment, protective clothing and your lunch.
