2018 SeeChange Festival: Diva and the Harp +1
A real highlight for me of the recent Jervis Bay SeeChange Festival, was the debut concert of local musical duo, The Diva and the Harp +1. On a winter’s night in June, believers of a different kind gathered in the welcoming confines of the Jervis Bay Anglican Church, beautifully decorated for the occasion, for what proved to be a night of great music and fellowship.
We were taken on a exploration of an ambitious repertoire which included Baroque, Blues, Jazz, Ballads and even some Leonard Cohen, with a dash of opera thrown in for good measure. The versatility of the voice might be accepted and in Kim’s case, amply demonstrated, but anyone who thought that the harp was limited to classical or folk repertoires was pleasantly enlightened, as it was by turns, delicate and supportive then punchy and assertive, lending itself to diverse styles and showcasing its versatility.
As the audience sat in the gentle afterglow, I heard a fellow member say that the show had touched on just about every emotion, as it had. I think that The Diva and the Harp have chosen a varied and well balanced repertoire, nicely suited to their combined talents. It provides for a great night’s entertainment.
I am looking forward to The Diva and the Harp’s next outing. You should too.... Chris
