An Overview of the Project

It was decided that in order to attain such a model it
would be necessary to bring about manufacturer rather
than await a commercial product. The scale of 1:8 was
settled upon given that no other British marque sports
car model is known to exist at such a large scale.

After some deliberation as to which model the project
should concentrate on, the Austin Healey 100 was chosen
as the obvious starting point given that it would facilitate 4
variations, ie the BN1, BN2, 100M and the 100S with the
basic body moulding being applicable to each.

Being a long time owner of full scale Austin Healey
100's, it was not a difficult decision to begin with a model
of the first of a long line of the most popular sports car.

Having established which model to pursue, the question
arose as to which master model maker would be able to
produce the quality required at such a large scale and
who could competently manage the design of components
for manufacter of approximately 50 of each model in the
four proposed variations.
