South Australia – Australia's Cycling Dead End



While you might think that South Australia, which hosts the Tour Down Under, would be a leading cycling state in Australia, unfortunately nothing could be further from the truth. South Australia spends less on cycling infrastructure than any other state and much of what it does spend ends up leading to dead ends such as above. Indeed as can be seen on the table below, South Australia is in fact the deadliest state in the country for cyclists with more than double the fatalities per head of population in 2007 than any other mainland state.
